5 stars are not enough to express the joy of this trip! I loved every minute of it - fantastic mountains, alpine flowers and lakes, weather, food, company, not to speak of being fortunate in having the best guide in Bulgaria! The hiking took me to the limits of what I am physically capable of (at present) and the last hour of scrambling/climbing the almost vertical North ridge of Mount Vihren to 2914m was exhilarating, if somewhat scary! Swimming (briefly) at 2500m was brilliant. Our all too brief tour of Sofia was also fascinating historically and architecturally. Thanks so much for thinking of and planning this trip so well Maja and Lea and to everyone else for their support when I was struggling with my cold in the first half of the week. I will surely be visiting Bulgaria again...

What a fantastic week! I still can't quite believe I got to the top of Vihren. Thanks especially to Maja and Steuan.

It has been my dream to get to the highest peaks in the Balkans and thanks to my fellow LEC hikers I made it. The sunshine, the spectacular views in the early morning, swimming in glacier lakes, the tasty food, everything was just right. Bulgaria is definitely worth visiting.
