SPRING CULINARY VACATION IN BULGARIA
“Adventure Trails” offers you a spring vacation in Southwest Bulgaria, to taste some of the best local delicacies and have a lovely escape vacation in the romantic countryside. It is an experience of a lifetime!29.04. Arriving at Sofia airport, where our guide will meet you. Short transfer and visit to the biggest and most important monastery in Bulgaria – the Rila Monastery – a UNESCO world heritage site. Here we will be able to taste some of the best Mekitsi – traditional bulgarian pastry sweets. Next is transfer to a small village deep in the forests, where we will be welcomed in a nice family hotel. Traditional dinner and overnight.
30.04. After breakfast it is time for a transfer to the town of Bansko – an old style settlement, now developing as a big ski resort. Short tour of Bansko and lunch in a traditional tavern. Here we will visit the local beekeepers. Return back to our lovely accommodation. The hosts have some great activities for their guests – women will be shown some typical bulgarian dishes and how to prepare them, introduced to local folklore singing and much more. Men will be shown the process of making wine and rakia and how the farm is maintained. Traditional dinner and overnight.
01.05. Breakfast and transfer to a nerby Eco farm, situated beautifully in the forests. Here we will have the opportunity to observe how the farm works and taste all the food, produced here – fruits and vegetables, herbs and juices. Later we will prepare our oun lunch – the hosts will guide us trough the preparation of traditional Bulgarian cold soups (tarator), barbecue and salads. In the afternoon, transfer to the nearby village of Dobarsko to visit a “mandra” - small local factory for Bulgarian yellow and white cheese. and also the masters of Bulgarian salamies to taste their products. Return to our family hotel. Traditional dinner and overnight.
02.05. . Breakfast. Transfer (30 min.) to the town of Razlog, where we will attend to the annual festival of the “Banitsa”. At the square in Razlog, women with 50 years of experience in the preparation of Banitsa will demonstrate their mastery. They will reveal the subtleties and secrets kept in rolling out the pastry. During the delicious holiday, will be presented recipes for various traditional Banitsa. Every visitor of the festival will have the opportunity to taste 10 types of Banitsa, among them: Banitsa with Turkish delight and apple, Banitsa with egg, cheese and butter, Banitsa with bulgur, “Yalova” Banitsa and many more sweet and salty delights. Afternoon visit to the famous church “Theodore Tiron and Theodore Stratilatus” in the village Dobarsko, known with its remarkable abstract icon paintings, dating from the beginning of XVII century. Return to our family hotel. Traditional dinner and overnight.
03.05. Breakfast. Today is children’s favorite entertainment: we will have a picnic in the woods. A short, pleasant walk will take us to a stunning location in the forests, where we will make our own campfire, and prepare lunch. Our guide will tell us more about the wildlife in the Rila mountains, and how to recognize the bird songs. In the afternoon, return to our nice family hotel. Traditional dinner and overnight.
04.05. Breakfast. Transfer back to the capital city Sofia. Arrival at the Sofia airport. Goodbye.
