RHODOPE MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR
Rhodope Mountains – land of fairy tales and myths, home of the legendary musician Orpheus and the brave Spartacus. A mesmerizing labyrinth of green valleys, rocky ridges and picturesque old villages.
It is also one of the most popular for tourism and outdoor activities areas in Bulgaria. Here, the Mountain
bike trail net is very well developed. And what better way to explore this beauty. “Adventure Trails” invites you to an unforgettable eight day ride in the Great Rhodopes.
Day 1. Arriving at Sofia airport. Meeting with your Mountain
bike tour guide and transfer to a nice family hotel in the village of Trigrad, deep in the very heart of the Rhodopes. Accommodation and short briefing about the tour. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2. Daily distance: 31 km. Breakfast. Visit to the famous Trigrad gorge with the Devil’s Throat cave. Next is a bike tour through some amazing landscape, to Yagodina. Lunch will be a picnic. Visit to the beautiful Yagodina cave. From here we will take the stunning road through the Buynovo and Trigrad gorges, back to our hotel. Some of the best Rhodope mountain views can be seen during this ride. Back in Trigrad, same accommodation. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3. Daily distance: 39 km. Breakfast. Morning start from our hotel, ride through some vast meadows – the very typical Rhodopes landscape. Our trail passes via Mugla, one of the most remote villages in the mountain, where the time have stopped. Lunch will be a picnic. The second half of today’s route will take us to the main ridge of the mountain. A pleasant descent from there to the famous village Shiroka Laka – an open air architectural and ethnographic museum. Accommodation in a nice family hotel. Traditional dinner and overnight
Day 4. Daily distance: 20 km.Breakfast. It is an easier ride today. Morning ascent on road to the beautiful village Stoykite. From here we will take a pleasant horizontal trail, which leads to a hut, situated in one of the biggest skiing areas in Bulgaria. Lunch will be a picnic. Short descent to the famous ski resort Pamporovo. Accommodation in a hotel. Free time. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5. Daily distance: 37 km. Breakfast. In the morning, from our hotel in Pamporovo, we will take the bike trail to the Rojen meadows – a sacred place for every Bulgarian. Here, in the very heart of the Rhodopes, we will visit the National Space Observatory. Lunch will be a picnic. The trail continues through Prespa, the highest point of our trip (at 1900 m. above sea level), to the village Manastir (Monastery) – the highest settlement in Bulgaria. Accommodation in a comfy family hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6. Daily distance: 36 km. Breakfast. Morning ascent back to the main ridge of the mountain. The place offers 360 degree view of the Rhodopes – an endless mosaic of ridges, summits, valleys, villages, towns, forests and meadows. Lunch will be a picnic. From here the trail follows the top of a green massif. At the end we will make a big descent to the town of Chepelare – again a famous ski center. Accommodation in a hotel in the town. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7. Daily distance: 32 km. Breakfast. In the morning, from the town of Chepelare, we will ride a trail, which follows a magnificent forested valley. Ascent to the meadows above it, where the route continues horizontally. Lunch will be a picnic. Once again some marvelous views, as we the trail descents gently towards our well known village Shiroka Laka. Accommodation in our old hotel. Dinner in its traditional restaurant. Overnight.
Day 8. Breakfast. Free time. Transfer to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and departure from Sofia airport.
